This is a teapot with real character. At first glance, some may even find it unattractive — my own first impression wasn’t too far off. But after spending time with it, I came to feel that its crude craftsmanship and imperfections are part of what give it a distinctive charm. Over time, those imperfections became part of what I appreciate most about it. The pot also has many interesting details — from the shape of the lid and handle to the carvings along the sides — that add to the enjoyment of using it.

The zini clay itself is actually quite solid, and I feel this pot performs especially well with darker teas such as shou puer, aged sheng puer, liubao, and aged liuan.

I also find this pot works particularly well with smaller amounts of leaf — around 5–6 grams — combined with longer steeps. In this way, it produces tea with depth, texture, and a comforting, full-bodied character.

Note on older teapots:
Older teapots like this one come with their own set of tradeoffs. Many are valued for exceptional clay and unique character, though they may also possess individual quirks not commonly found in modern productions. Part of the enjoyment lies in learning a pot over time — discovering its strengths, adapting to its personality, and developing a relationship that grows with use.
