Late 1990s Fengpai Qizi Bing Cha

The seller claims this tea dates to 1997. I can’t say with certainty that the date is correct, but the tea appears to be from the late 1990s. Regardless of the exact year, this is a very nice tea, and at this price point I think it represents an excellent value.

The wrappers were removed before the tea was sold because they were in poor condition from insect activity. This has no effect on the tea’s performance in the cup. The tea itself has remained dry and clean, retaining some of its youthful vigor and plenty of strength despite its age. 

According to the inner ticket, the tea is made from Fengqing large-leaf material from Lincang. It has an apricot-like aroma with notes of wood and resin, along with a lively mouthfeel and good thickness. Noticeable bitterness gradually gives way to sweetness, leaving behind a cooling sensation and a strong, persistent aftertaste.

The energy is powerful and deep, making it suitable for a more focused session.

I think the tea would benefit from further aging, but I personally find it quite enjoyable to drink as it is. There is already a lot to enjoy here, particularly at this price point.
