Hongni Teapot
Hongni Teapot
Approx. 90ml
Single-hole filter
Circa 2010
This is the kind of teapot that immediately draws attention with its unusual shape. It’s the only example of this form that I’ve personally come across so far. Although the pot appears larger at first glance, its actual volume is only around 90ml, making it ideal for smaller sessions.
The craftsmanship on this pot is very good. The walls are thick, the lid fit is tight, and the pour is smooth and controlled. Despite its smaller volume, the pot has a satisfying weight in the hands and is actually relatively heavy for a 90ml pot, giving it a sturdy and substantial feel during brewing. Its longer, flatter shape and wider base can also make it slightly tricky to use at first, though this gradually becomes part of the pot’s character.
Personally, I find this pot pairs especially well with dry-stored sheng puer, though I think it would also work very nicely with oolong teas.
